Section Officers/ Stenographers (Grade ‘B’/Grade-I) Limited Departmental Competitive Examination
Union Public Service Commission holds a Combined Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for additions in the Select Lists for the Section Officers’ Grade and Stenographers’ Grade-I/Grade ‘B’ of the services like 

• Section Officers’ Grade of Central Secretariat Service.
• Section Officers’ Grade (Integrated Grade II & III) of General Cadre of Indian Foreign Service, Branch 'B'.
• Section Officers' Grade of Railway Board Secretariat Service
• Grade ‘A’ & ‘B’ merged of Central Secretariat Stenographers' Service.
• Grade-I of the Stenographers’ Cadre of Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’.
• Grade ‘A’ & ‘B’ merged of Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers’ Service.
• Grade 'B' of the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers' Service.
• Section Officers’ Grade of  the Intelligence Bureau.
• Section Officers’ Grade of Armed Forces Head Quarters Civil Service.

Eligibility
Only certain categories of departmental candidates who are employed as Assistants or Stenographers’ Grade ‘C’/Grade II of these Services or as Cypher Assistants Grade II of Cypher Sub-cadre of the Indian Foreign Service Branch‘B’ are eligible to apply for this examination.
Educational Qualification - No specific educational qualification prescribed.
Age - limits: No age limit prescribed. The examination is confined to serving Central Government Employees working as Assistant in the Assistant Grade of the Central Secretariat Service. Railway Board Sectt. Service, Intelligence Bureau, Armed Forces headquarters Civil Services; or Stenographer Grade-C of the Central Secretariat

Part A
Candidates have to appear in the following conventional (Essay Type) papers

Noting and drafting, precis writing.

Procedure and Practice in Government of India Secretariat and Attached offices. (For Categories I, II and IX)

Procedure and Practice in Government of India Secretariat and Attached offices. (For Categories IV, V and VI)

(iii)
Procedure and Practice in Government of India Secretariat and Attached offices. (For Categories VII only)

(iv)
Office Procedure and Practice (For Category III)

(v)
Office Procedure and Practice (For Category VII)

(i)
General Knowledge of the constitution of India and the Machinery of Government, Practice and Procedure in Parliament (for categories I, II, III and IX)

(ii)
General Knowledge of the constitution of India and the Machinery of Government, Practice and Procedure in Parliament (for categories IV, V,VI and VII)

4.
(i)
General Financial and Service Rules, (For Category I)

(ii)

 Assessment of 5 years CRs                                   100 Marks

Application Procedure
Application forms and full details are obtainable from Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069 by remitting the requisite amount by Money Order or on Cash payment at U.P.S.C. Counter. Candidates must clearly state on Money Order coupons "S.Os’/Stenographers’ (Grade ‘B’/Grade-I) Limited Departmental Competitive Examination"' and also give their names and full postal addresses in block letters. Payment by any other mode viz. Indian Postal Orders, Cheque, Currency notes, etc. is not acceptable in lieu of Money Order.  
UPSC has a Facilitation Counter near "C" Gate of its campus. Candidates may obtain any information/ clarification regarding their application/ candidature on working days between 10.00 hours to 17.00 hours in person or over Telephone No. 011-23385271/ 011-23381125 from this counter.
